Install
- From Microsoft’s add-in store, once it is listed there. In Excel, choose Home > Add-ins, search for Opengeni and choose Add. If it isn’t there yet, install it from your Opengeni account instead.
- From your Opengeni account. Open app.opengeni.ai/excel. It shows the steps for your platform and the add-in file to use.
- For a whole organization. A Microsoft 365 admin can deploy it to everyone from the Microsoft 365 admin center (Settings > Integrated apps).
Sign in and start
- Choose Opengeni on the Home tab. The pane opens.
- Choose Sign in and sign in to Opengeni in the window that opens. You need an Opengeni account; you can create one at app.opengeni.ai.
- If you have more than one workspace, pick one in the bar at the top of the pane. The open workbook joins that workspace, and the bar shows Connected to the workbook’s name.
- Ask for what you need, such as “Add a totals row to this table” or “Summarize sales by region on a new sheet”.
Your data
- The add-in works only in the workbook it is open in, and only while its pane is open and connected.
- While the pane is connected, it reads your selection each time it changes: the selected range and a short sample of the cells in it that have content (at most the first 20 rows and 8 columns, as displayed, and their formulas, shortened to fit). That sample goes with each message you send from the pane, shown as a pill above the message box. Choose × on the pill to leave that selection out; a different selection is sent again unless you leave it out too. Each message also names the workbook, so the agent knows which one you mean.
- Agents read or change anything else in the workbook only when they run a step for you.
- Workbook content an agent reads is handled like any other content in your Opengeni chats, as described in the privacy policy.
- Only you can reach the workbooks you connect, and only from the workspace you connected them to.
- Sign out in the pane disconnects the add-in from your account.
Troubleshooting
- The sign-in window doesn’t open. Allow pop-ups for Excel on the web, or choose Allow when Excel asks to open a window.
- The agent says no workbook is connected. Open the Opengeni pane in that workbook and check that it shows Connected. Use the same workspace in your chat and in the pane.
- The Opengeni button is missing. Choose Home > Add-ins and add it again, or reload Excel on the web.
